COVID-19 vaccinations and risk assessments
Vaccinations are a hot topic. The media is dominated by headlines on vaccination rates, the government’s goal of 90 per cent vaccination of the eligible population, vaccination certificates, Public Health Response Orders mandating vaccination for certain categories of workers, and businesses mandating vaccination or implementing ‘no jab, no entry’ policies. With this messaging, it is little surprise that employers are starting to consider whether they can, and if so should, mandate vaccinations in their own workplace.
‘Super Saturday’ nationwide vaccination drive
The Government has announced that Saturday 16 October, or ‘Super Saturday’, is planned as a day when all Kiwis can go and get vaccinated throughout the day. Civic and political leaders are asked to contribute to this big effort to get people in their communities out to be vaccinated on this day.

COVID-19 guidance and support
The COVID-19 Local Government Response Unit was reactivated last week and, in partnership with the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ), we are releasing daily guidance and advice to support the sector through the recent COVID-19 outbreak and the associated Alert Levels – for both immediate challenges, and supporting evolving challenges. We also collate guidance from central government and other agencies. We meet twice daily, seven days a week to stay on top of the issues and release the ‘5.15’ later in the day.
